Society’s image of “sexy men” has changed repeatedly throughout history. For example, hundreds of years ago, having a large stomach was interpreted as having a higher economic status.
Today, fashion magazines only display lean, muscular men with no body fat. But is it really true that women only want men with a super-defined six-pack?
That’s incorrect, according to a new study that claims women find rounder men more attractive, reports World of buzz.
Nowadays, everywhere on social media, you see tips, life hacks, and tricks telling you how to get the perfect body in no time.
There are diets, training plans, and many other tips on how to become “good-looking.”
Women prefer a beer belly
But what do women really think about men with lean and fit bodies?
To answer this question, Planet Fitness asked over 2,000 women and men what type of body shape they were most attracted to.
The result showed that 7 out of 10 women prefer men with beer bellies—an overweight of up to ten kilos.
A biological explanation
According to Richard Bribiescas, a professor at Yale, there is a biological explanation for why women are more attracted to men who prefer to spend their free evenings on the couch than at the gym.
Bigger men have lower testosterone levels, which provide a better immune system and, in turn, a longer life.
“This change in body composition not only causes men to shop for more comfortable trousers but also facilitates increased survivorship and, hypothetically, a hormonal milieu that would more effectively promote and support paternal investment,” Bribiescas explained to Viralthread.
As long as they have it under control
But, as with everything else, there is a limit. Too much fat, as you know, increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and lower energy.
This means you can indulge yourself with some beer and pizza over the weekend without having to feel guilty about it.
