Eating less and less meat has become increasingly popular in recent years. More and more people are going the vegan way, partly because it’s good for the environment and partly because it’s better for our health.
However, there is now a British study showing vegans get sick twice as often as carnivores, reports Yahoo.
The general belief is that vegans lead healthier lives compared to those who eat meat. Consuming too much meat increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, the fact is that vegans get sick twice more often than carnivores.
More sick leave days
A British study surveyed 1,000 people, and the results showed that those with a strict vegan diet took on average five sick days a year.
The carnivores in the study, instead, took an average of 2.5 days per year, half as many days as the vegans.
More visits to the doctor
The study also showed that vegans visit their doctor 2.6 times during the winter. The average for the other participants was 0.7 times.
A vegan diet can prevent cardiovascular diseases, eliminate most of the fat we eat and reduce the risk of cancer.
But it doesn’t seem to help escape the common cold, as a matter of fact, it seems to be the opposite.
