Doctors warn: Using your phone while you poop can give you hemorrhoids

During these difficult times, we must do our part. Staying inside and avoiding crowds as much as possibles could give our doctors and nurses a few more minutes to rest in between their 72 hours shifts.

Thankfully, technology is there for us, ready to entertain, inform, and distract us in any way imaginable. With the current situation, there is no shame if you have your face buried in your phone.

It’s very important to keep up with the news, dangers, and discoveries.

However, there are some places that you should be careful with your phone usage, due to health risks.

The fact is that taking the phone with you to the bathroom can cause hemorrhoids, reports The Mirror.

Being too attached to one’s phone is not good for several reasons. However, during this coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak all is forgiven. I mean it’s great if you have family and friends to share the quarantine with, but it can get boring pretty fast when you are locked inside your home. Nevertheless, we are here to make sure you take the proper measures while doing it.

Can cause hemorrhoids

According to a survey conducted in the UK, 57% of the population uses their phones during bathroom visits.

Sitting on the toilet for too long can cause hemorrhoids. Using your phone in the bathroom prolongs the visit, which increases the risk of hemorrhoids.

“Constipation and straining to poo is a major risk factor for piles (hemorrhoids) – being pregnant, chronic cough and getting older also a factor. But so too does prolonged sitting on the loo.

“And while in the past, some of us took a good book into the toilet with us, these days it’s more likely to be the ever-present mobile phone,” said Dr. Sarah Jarvis to The Mirror.

Must see a doctor

If you suffer from hemorrhoids often, or if they don’t go away after a week, you should consult a doctor.

The most common cause of hemorrhoids is still constipation, and to avoid it one should include plenty of fiber in their diet.

But leaving your phone alone while doing your business in the bathroom won’t kill you, if anything, it will help you in the long run.
