The memories we made at school get further and further away with each passing year. Today, the days where you sat at your desk in class worrying about finishing your homework in time seem almost like a blurry thought.
Going to school was difficult at times, but oh how important it was. You learned to read, write, plan, and lots of other useful things. Math, however, was a more polarizing subject. Some of us loved it, and the rest pretty much hated it.
Of course, we use arithmetic quite often, but how much do you actually remember from the longer and trickier calculations we used to easily solve back then?
The older you get, the more important it becomes to take care of yourself. Regular exercise and a good diet are vital to feeling well. But the fact is, that it’s just as important to keep your brain in shape.
A good way to keep those brain cells sharp is by solving brainteasers. Perhaps the most common ones are crossword puzzles or sudoku since they have come in newspapers for decades now. However, the important part is to exercise the mind.
Solve the math riddle
A good type of puzzle to test our heads is an old-school math riddle. There are currently plenty of math problems on the Internet, and many adults try to desperately solve them – often in vain.
You can see how much you remember while trying to compete against others, or just yourself, which is always quite fun.
With that said, here comes today’s challenge!
In the picture below, there is a math riddle from a school book that leaves most adults confused. The only rule – you can’t use a calculator.
Here is the math riddle! What do you think is the correct answer?
Don’t stress, look carefully and try to figure out how to get to the right solution.
Here is the correct answer
Below the picture below, we present the solution to the math riddle.
The correct answer is 104.
Always start with the multiplication
How then do we arrive at that?
Because you start from the multiplication, according to the order of operations.
First, you calculate 25 x 0, which of course becomes 0.
Then we are left with 50 + 50 – 0 + 2 + 2, which is 104.
The important thing, in order to get the right answer, is to start with multiplication. Otherwise, things will go wrong.
Did you solve it on your own? Then congratulations are in order!
