Sitting down and letting the brain focus on something unrelated to our responsibilities helps us keep our mental health strong, which gets increasingly important the further we get in life.
With that in mind, I found a tricky math test that I would like to share with you today. It may seem difficult since most of us last solved any proper math equations back in school, but this a perfect chance to find out how much you actually remember from those days.
We rely on math for everything. We use it when we shop, cook, drive, exercise, etc.
However, we often do these things automatically. Simpler math happens naturally, and very few of us have to bring out a calculator to solve 10 + 10.
Simple tasks are easy
However, it may be needed if we add a few more variables.
When my children started school, I remember I had to help them with their homework. When it came to math, it didn’t take long before they left me in the dust.
What you learned when you sat at your desk in school has, sadly, disappeared over time. Maybe just because you don’t really come across complex equations that often anymore.
Solve this math problem without a calculator
That is why today, we will test ourselves with a math problem that is actually quite simple. Still, you must know the basic order of math operations (PEMDAS).
What to solve first and what to solve last. Namely, one must know this to succeed in completing this task.
The question: How do you solve this math problem?!
1 + 1 + 1 – 1 x 2 – 0 = ?
Do you know how to solve this? If not, we’ll show you the answer below.
A simple solution – if you know the method
Okay, after the picture below, you’ll find the explanation.
As the order of operations dictates, we start with is the multiplication.
1 x 2
1 x 2 = 2
Then you see how the whole equation looks.
1 + 1 + 1 – 2 – 0
After that, it becomes pretty simple.
3 – 2
The answer is thus: 1
The solution is actually quite easy to find, as you can see.
However, you needed to start by calculating the multiplication – and not everyone remembers that vital rule.
