We all like to eat and drink different things. Some of us prefer sweets, others are crazy about sour foods, and some have a weakness for salty food.
However, few of us have thought about what having a sweet tooth can say about our personality.
But according to a new study, there are certain conclusions one can draw depending on your taste buds’ preferences.
The research shows, for example, that people who drink their coffee black are more prone to be psychopaths, according to The Mirror.
Do you like to drink your coffee black, without milk or cream? Then you might be a psychopath, according to a new study conducted at the University of Innsbruck, Austria.
“Malevolent and sadistic traits”
The study included 1,000 people of both sexes. In the study, the participants ranked different things they liked to eat and drink on a scale from 1 to 6.
After that, the participants took a personality test. The results showed that those who prefer their coffee black, without sugar, milk or cream, had a darker personality.
“The present research has demonstrated that bitter taste preferences are associated with more pronounced malevolent personality traits, especially robustly with everyday sadism,” wrote Christina Sagioglou and Tobias Greitemeyer, authors of the study.
Applies to all bitter flavors
The study also points out it is not only those who like their coffee black who risk being psychopaths.
This applies to all bitter flavors, such as bitter beers and tonic water for example.
Those who, on the other hand, prefer sweeter and milder flavors are, according to the study, very sympathetic and understanding individuals.
So keep an eye on that friend that loves black coffee, Gin and tonic, or IPA beer! Of course, take this information with a pinch of salt, but with that in mind, it’s still fascinating to think that what we like to eat can reveal something so deep within us.
