Staying healthy and sharp for as long as possible is a common goal for most of us, and countless paths can lead you there.
In recent years, yoga has become increasingly popular because of the great results it offers both mentally, and physically.
Steph Gongora, a mother of 5, teaches yoga and has written several books on the subject.
To encourage other women to practice yoga every day of the month, Steph performs her yoga in white clothing to show that she’s not ashamed of her period.
Getting rid of the period taboo
Talking about women’s period has become more and more common, as a society we are trying to get rid of the taboo that surrounds it. After all, it’s one of the most natural things in life, without the menstrual cycle, no children would be born.
Steph Gongora contributes to the cause in her own way.
“I am a woman, therefore, I bleed”
The mother-of-five believes no woman should be ashamed of her period.
To inspire other women, she posted a clip on Instagram, performing a yoga session like she normally does.
But she does it in white clothes and without anything to hide she is currently on her period.
In the post you can read the following (shortened):
“I am a woman, therefore, I bleed. It’s messy, it’s painful, it’s terrible, & it’s beautiful. And yet, you wouldn’t know. Because I hide it. I bury things at the bottom of the trash. I breathe, ragged and awkward through the cramps, all the while holding onto this tight-lipped, painted on a smile … STOP PRETENDING. Stop using silly pet names for your period like Aunt Flo because you’re too afraid to say “I’m bleeding” or “vagina.” Stop wasting so much effort hiding the very thing that gives this species continuity.”
Steph simply wants women to stop being ashamed of who they are.
