Solving optical illusions is one of my favorite things.
When I was a kid, I had a book filled with them, and now there are millions online for you to pick from. Especially the ones that hold two different shapes depending on how you look at them.
While everyone is pulling their hair trying to solve these confusing images, they can’t help but wonder exactly what to look for.
The famous picture below has been circulating around the world since 1888. To give you some perspective, It was the year “The Great Blizzard” hit the American northeast.
People were Puzzled
The postcard below comes from Germany, made by an organization called “The Anchor Buggy Company.”
At first, the company handed these postcards without knowing there was another picture hidden inside. But soon, more and more people started noticing something strange about the cards…
Can you see the different images inside this postcard?
The artist behind the illustration was the American cartoonist William Ely Hill. Of course, he knew what he was doing, daring readers with the title “My wife and my mother-in-law. They are both in this picture – find them”.
Thousands of fans
After months with no one succeeding, William continued his career as a cartoonist. But suddenly the picture started going viral, something really hard back when there was no internet, he soon gained thousands of fans.
His illusion depicts his wife looking away and his mother-in-law looking down.
This image was the first of its kind, as far as we know, and has survived the test of time, despite new illusions popping up every single day. Millions of people have watched William Ely Hill’s image, probably billions of times by now!
Take a look at the image above and see if you can see the two women!
As mentioned above, you should see a young woman looking away and an older lady looking down.
