Even if one thrives greatly doing their job or just keeps doing it to be able to afford food, most people would probably prefer to do something else with their time, if they got the chance.
It also feels like the hours of work keep increasing compared to when you started, and maybe it’s time to change that.
According to a new study, people over the age of 40 should work no longer than three days a week.
You get up way too early, get ready, have breakfast and go to work. That’s how mornings for most adults in America look. But what if that could change, at least if you are 40 or older?
Analyzed stress levels
According to a study by the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research in Australia, people over 40 years of age should work no more than 3 days per week.
The study researched how to make working time more efficient and studied over 6,000 people.
The study analyzed the participants’ effectiveness at work and their stress levels over a week’s time. Among other things, the participants got to read texts aloud and try to memorize number combinations within a certain time limit.
The result: they measured the greatest efficiency at 25 hours of work per week.
Fatigue has a negative impact
The researchers, in the study, also took into consideration quality of life, financial security and family time in the calculation.
They could see that the results in the tests dropped significantly for those who had been active for more than 25 hours.
“Work can be a double-edged sword, in that it can stimulate brain activity, but at the same time, long working hours and certain types of tasks can cause fatigue and stress which potentially damage cognitive functions,” said economics professor Colin McKenzie who took part in the study.
Even though you might want to take this study with a pinch of salt, 25 hours of work during a week sounds fantastic to me.
