We are all afraid of something. Some of us are afraid of heights, others run away as soon as they see a cockroach.
Why one suffers from an unreasonably strong fear, a phobia, towards a particular object or animal, I don’t know; logic can’t explain everything. However, fear can make people act irrationally.
With that said, the question remains if this woman, from upstate New York, takes the prize – she drove off the road after seeing a spider riding shotgun in her car, according to the New York Post.
Being scared of spiders, or even suffering from Arachnophobia, is probably one of the most common things amongst humanity. It comes from our ancestors, who while living in forests and jungles, could not tell the difference between poisonous and harmless spiders. In other words, it‘s in our genes, and is quite normal, although in today’s world it is unnecessary.
Ridding shotgun
However, it’s difficult for people to overcome their phobia when they see a spider, even if it’s not dangerous.
Such was the case for a woman from Cairo, New York. Who while driving her car last week, suddenly discovered an unannounced passenger.
A spider had climbed up to the passenger seat, causing the woman to lose control of her car and drive off the road.
Had to call an ambulance
She suffered severe injuries and had to call an ambulance. When emergencies and the police arrived at the scene, the woman admitted that the whole ordeal was due to a small spider.
Afterward, the local police issued an official message through their Facebook page that said:
“After investigating today’s crash on Silver Spur Road we feel it necessary to bring up a contributing factor that is not covered too often. It is believed that the operator of the vehicle noticed a SPIDER in the driver’s area with her as she was driving. The operator panicked and crashed suffering a leg injury from the crash. We know that it is easier for some drivers than others but PLEASE, try to teach new drivers and yourselves to overcome the fear and pull over to a safe place. Lives depend on it.”
